Inside Scotland’s Places of Worship: A Brilliant BBC Resource for RMPS

I absolutely love the Prayer and Reflection series on BBC iPlayer. It is a fantastic resource, not only for getting a look inside various places of worship but also for gaining valuable insights into the beliefs, practices, and nuances between different denominations and types of worshipers.

There are 14 episodes available covering a wide range of beliefs, including the six World Religions studied at National 5 and Higher. I especially love that several of the episodes are set right here in Scotland!

Some of the Scottish locations featured include:

  • St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh
  • Glasgow Central Mosque, Glasgow
  • Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery, Scottish Borders

You can watch the series here: Prayer and Reflection – BBC iPlayer

To help make the most of this series in the classroom, I have created a generic write-on sheet. You can use this with your classes to help focus their reflections while they watch.

Where this works best:

N5 and Higher RMPS: An excellent tool for contextualizing learning and bringing course concepts to life.

One-off lessons: Perfect for a standalone deep-dive or cover work.

BGE (Broad General Education): Great for introducing or exploring a specific world religion.
