Survey Information and Ethical Guidelines
Thank you for considering taking part in this survey. Before you begin, please read the following information about the purpose of this study and the ethical guidelines we are following to protect your rights and privacy.
Purpose of Research
What is RME? is a research project looking at what happens in RME classrooms in Scotland. It aims to open up discussions on pedagogy, content and sharing of good practice to support RME teachers with their CLPL. It also aims to encourage dialogue on what RME is, and isn’t. The survey data will be collated and analysed as part of a podcast and series of blog posts hosted on www.learningrmps.com.
This research project is part of a Farmington Scholarship and is being supported by Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. The findings from the research project will be presented at the Farmington Conference 2026. Findings will also be shared on the LearningRMPS website (www.learningrmps.com).
Participation
The survey will be a series of questions, firstly about your setting and then about what is taught in RME in your setting. The survey is focused on what happens in Core RME in your setting.
Your participation in this survey is completely voluntary. You have the right to decline to participate, and you can stop the survey at any time without any negative consequences.
Anonymity
The survey does not ask for your name or school. There is the option to add your email address if you are interested in participating in further discussions, such as on the podcast. Your email address will be stored separately from your survey responses to maintain the anonymity of your answers.
Survey responses will be collated and form part of a thematic look at Core RME. Any quotations or information from the survey used publicly will be anonymised and any identifying information in quotes will be removed.
Data Security
All survey data will be collected and stored securely. The data will be kept on a password-protected computer and will only be accessible by Steph Whyte. The raw data will be kept for 2 years after the study is complete and then permanently deleted.
Potential Risks and Benefits
There are no foreseeable risks associated with participating in this survey. By sharing your insights, you will be contributing to a better understanding of what happens in RME classrooms, which may lead to positive changes for the teaching community.
