Absolutely buzzin’ and also super nervous to announce that Episode 1 of my Podcast – What Even is RME? Is now out! This has been a back burner plan for quite a while and building up the courage to start, record and post this has been a massive step outside my comfort zone. In fact its more than a step, its a rocket to the moon outside my comfort zone.
I would like to thank Marilyn for her time and making me feel so at ease recording the first episode. But the episode is exactly how I wanted it to be – just two RME teachers talking about their day and what they get up to. We want to dispell the myths of RME – what it is and what it is not but also allow people to get a glimpse into what happens in RME.
We talk about Parents Night and how to get parent’s onside with RME and how that can help massively. One thing Marilyn talks about is having a course plan or information about what RMPS is and what pupils will be studying available at parent’s night to help showcase the subject and why it is useful. I have found this to be extremely useful in the past especially if you can also add in quotes from pupils who have taken RMPS so it is also in pupil friendly language.
Marilyn also talked about why it is so important to build relationships with pupils. This is a fundamental. Take time, get to know your pupils, pack them up early and talk to them about their day, their plans what they have been up to. You will be amazed at what you can find out and how that then brings you a little bit closer when it comes to being able to bring real life examples and lived experiences to the pupils.
