Higher RMPS Past Paper Questions – Islam, Justice and Origins

This table below is a quick reference guide for all past paper questions in Higher for Justice, Islam and Origins. What can you do with these questions to help your revision?

  • Time yourself writing a response. It should be about 20 minutes for a 10 marker and 40 minutes for a 20 marker.
  • Go through them and work out what each question is asking you. Can you spot any similarities in the questions.
  • Give yourself 10 minutes and write a plan for the essays. Follow the structure

2016 In what ways are Muslim beliefs about the nature of human beings and judgement connected? “Practising the Five Pillars presents more challenges than benefits for Muslims today.” To what extent do you agree with this statement? Analyse the moral issues arising from sentencing in the UK. Evaluate religious viewpoints on capital punishment. “The theory of evolution is enough to prove that life does not require a creator.” How far do you agree?
2017 Explain the relationship between two Muslim beliefs you have studied. To what extent does worship benefit Muslims? Explain the reasons why there is a moral debate about the causes of crime Choose a non-religious response to the purposes of punishment. To what extent do you agree with this response? How convincing are religious views on origins?
2018 Explain the purpose of living according to the Five Pillars. ‘Beliefs about judgement present challenges for Muslims.’ How far do you agree? Analyse the moral issues arising from UK responses to crime. ‘Capital punishment can never be justified.’ To what extent do you agree with religious responses to this statement? To what extent do you agree that the universe required a creator?
2019 Analyse the purpose of practicing submission. Beliefs about God are the most significant of all Muslim beliefs.’ How far do you agree? Analyse religious responses to custodial sentences ‘Retribution is as morally acceptable as any other purpose of punishment.’ How far do you agree? ‘Life was created.’ How far do you agree?
SQP Analyse the relationship between beliefs about free will and suffering. . ‘Living according to the Five Pillars presents too many challenges for Muslims.’ To what extent do you agree? Analyse the moral debate surrounding custodial sentences. ‘Of all the purposes of punishment, reformation is the most important.’ To what extent do you agree? To what extent do you agree that religious and scientific views on the origins of life are compatible?
